Sociology

The PhD study in the discipline of sociological sciences includes various forms of activities (e.g. E-learning, study visits seminars, lectures) and the implementation of individual research plan under the guidance of the supervisor. The program includes classes in Polish and English, compulsory and optional, including education in the field of:

[1] contemporary concepts and sociological theories, interpretation of social reality and the practical application of sociological knowledge;

[2] research methodology, including advanced methods and techniques of qualitative and quantitative research;

[3] academic competences, including raising funds for research, principles of scientific communication, popularising research results and shaping a professional career;

[4] professional competences, among others preparation for conducting academic classes, transfer and dissemination of knowledge (e.g. in the form of training, workshops, seminars). Throughout the entire period of education, which lasts no more than four years, a PhD student is required to collect at least 40 ECTS, including at least 25 ECTS during the first two years preceding the mid-term evaluation.

A graduate of a doctoral school has advanced knowledge about contemporary concepts, and sociological theories, can interpret social phenomena and apply sociological knowledge in practice. He has methodological competence, independently manages research projects and disseminates their results - based on the highest standards, caring about the organisation, substantive quality and ethical dimension of undertaken activities. He can plan his professional career, has managerial competence, is prepared to conduct academic classes and work in research teams.
