Political and Public Administration Sciences

The education of PhD students at the Doctoral School in the Social Sciences within the discipline of science on politics and administration takes place based on the education program and an individual research plan prepared and implemented under the applicable School Regulations. The education program lasts four years and includes required and optional courses.

 

The program in the discipline of politics and administration consists of four modules of specialist education, divided into subsequent semesters. The first module consists of subjects of educational character from selected areas of the discipline, including the doctoral seminar. As part of the second module, methodological training will be conducted, the purpose of which is to provide knowledge in the field of social research methodology and research tools in the discipline. The third module is aimed at raising academic competences by PhD students and includes classes related to the development of a scientific career and gaining practical skills in this field. The fourth module contains courses for PhD students in the field of vocational preparation for conducting academic classes, as well as soft competencies, necessary in various forms of the professional career of graduates of the Doctoral School in the Social Sciences.

Subjects in the field of education are associated with scientific research offered in the unit, within the field of social sciences and concern the issues of political science, administration, international relations as well as security. Research is conducted as part of individual employee projects, as well as teamwork organised in individual units. Current research concerns the study of the state and the theory of politics, philosophy and ethics of politics, political doctrines, aspects of journalism, history and the contemporary dimension of political thought both in Polish and international terms. Another block of research in the discipline of politics and administration include projects on the issues of constitutionalism and state regimes, socio-political transformations as well as contemporary political systems. An essential part of the conducted research, considering the historical aspects of political, international and security processes, concerns the history of Poland, the history of the political system and the history of diplomacy and international relations. A separate block is research on area studies, which relates to specific regions and subregions around the world. Another direction of research is the issue of foreign policy and contemporary international relations, including elements of strategy and tactics of international relations as well as integration processes in the modern world. Another block of research is issues related to national and international security, including issues of defence, wars, military and armed conflicts as well as global and asymmetric threats in the modern world.

In this respect, the distinction and the different content of research results related to academic classes should be emphasised, reflecting the program within the Doctoral School in the Social Sciences and learning outcomes consistent with the second level characteristics for qualifications at level 8 of the Polish Qualification Framework.

The PhD program in the discipline of politics and administration was created to prepare PhD students for comprehensive social roles and careers. The program is based on academic classes and an individual PhD student's research plan, which is the basis for conducting research and obtaining a PhD degree. Classes as part of the PhD program in the discipline of political science and administration were divided into obligatory and optional subjects.

Compulsory classes concern issues that are fundamental for scientific research conducted in the discipline. In turn, elective courses of the program participants can choose from the offer of the entire Doctoral School, in accordance with their interests and profile of research. Thanks to the adopted solution, after obtaining a PhD degree, graduates of the Doctoral School in the Social Sciences, are prepared for various forms of continuing their professional career.

 

Graduates of the PhD program in the discipline of politics and administration are prepared to continue their academic work and employment at universities and research institutions. Graduates are also prepared to work in government and local government administration, political parties, economic and social organisations, international institutions and organisations, as well as in the media. The participants of the Doctoral School are also prepared to take up the job as an analyst, adviser, specialist and a person who manages teamwork. Graduates also have the competence to undertake social activities, as well as political and parliamentary, related to the socio-political needs of the state.
