RSA Professional Development Webinar Series
This webinar series has been running since May 2020 and offers training and support for skills, knowledge and professional development on a variety of topics. Run by experts in their field, this ‘how to’ best practice webinar series aims to offer support to researchers at different career stages.

Regions in Recovery: Building Sustainable Futures – Global e-Festival
The Festival will be held 2-18 June 2021 and is organised in partnership with a number of organisations and networks. It will bring together urban and regional studies/science/ policy communities and communities of planners (AESOP), economic (SEG) and finance (FinGeo) geographers. In addition, we are partnering with a network of community development experts (LDnet) and the EU Commission’s Urban Innovative Actions.
The programme with feature a variety of academic, training, networking and wellbeing sessions and is currently finalised. The programme will be available at www.regionalstudies.org/events/rinr2021/ later this month. Participation is free for non-presenters! As part of the Festival, we will offer a mentored writing workshop for PhD students and early career researchers.
Write Here, Write Now – Academic writing sessions

Funding & Awards
Excellence Awards
Nominations (both self-nominations and third-party nominations) are being sought for the following awards in regional studies and related fields:
Nathaniel Lichfield Award – this award is for recent master’s graduates who have graduated within the previous year.
Paul Benneworth PhD Student Award – this award is for current PhD students who have not yet received their PhD certificate.
RSA Routledge Early Career Award – this award is for early career researchers (defined as being within five years of the date on their PhD certificate or equivalent).
· The prize for each Award is £500 (c. €575) and a certificate.
· Application deadline: 30th April 2021

Early Career Grant Scheme
This funding is open to individual applicants in their early career (five years maximum between the date showing on the certificate and the application deadline). Applicants must be based within an eligible higher education institution and must be a current, early career member of the RSA. This grant aims to support a discrete piece of regional studies and/or regional science research.
· Value: up to £10,000 (c. €11,500; $12,000)
· Application deadline (Expression of Interest): 15th September 2021

Publishing
Regional Studies Regional Science: Early Careers Mentored Papers Section
Regional Studies Regional Science is the RSA’s gold open access journal which publishes standard length articles, review papers & special collections, regional policy briefings and short articles, regional graphics and commentaries. In addition, the journal has a mentored section for PhD students and early career researchers publishing short articles. If selected for publication in this section, the RSA will cover the article processing charge and the author will work with a mentor to develop the paper. Deadlines for submissions are on 31st March and 30th September.

Early Career Editors and Social Media Editor posts
The RSA supports the career development of researchers and offers positions for early career editors and social media editors on it journals. These posts offer valuable insights and experiences of academic publishing buy closely working with senior Editors, publishers and the RSA office.
